Ryan Anderson and the Boston College Eagles tip off the season against the Florida International Golden Panthers on Sunday in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Eagles enter the 2012-13 season with eight returning players (including three starters) after enduring a rebuilding year last season, finishing 9-22 overall (4-12 ACC). Anderson, now a sophomore, was the Eagles' leading scorer and rebounding last season, averaging 11.2 points and 7.4 rebounds. The team also returns starting center Dennis Clifford (8.9 PPG, 4.7 RPG in 2011-12) and shooting guard Lonnie Jackson (8.3 PPG, .399 three-point percentage in 2011-12). Steve Donahue, the Eagles' head coach, is now entering his third year.
Boston College has also acquired the services of highly-touted freshman guard Oliver Hanlan as well as forward Joe Rahon, but the abrupt departure of guard Jordan Daniels (transferring) will leave the Eagles' bench noticeably thinner.
Florida International is coming off an 8-21 season last year. The Golden Panthers featured three double-digit scorers last season, led by DeJuan Wright (16.7 PPG, 7.9 RPG), and enter the new year without their top four leading scorers from a year ago. Cameron Bell, a senior, is the team's top returning leading scorer, having averaged 4.0 points in the 2011-12 campaign.
Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. The game can be heard on 93.7 FM WEEI.
