Lyle McCombs racked up 120 rushing yards and a touchdown on 29 carries as the UConn Huskies snapped their four-game losing streak and picked up their first Big East victory of the season, 24-17, against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT.
The Huskies (4-6, 1-4 Big East) totaled 345 yards (213 passing, 132 rushing) in the win. UConn scored all of its points in the first half before nearly giving the game away when Pittsburgh scored 17 unanswered in the second half. The Panthers (4-6, 1-4 Big East) had 350 total yards (302 passing, 48 rushing).
Chandler Whitmer completed 19-of-25 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and an interception for UConn. Ryan Griffin caught six passes for 84 yards and a score and Shakim Phillips reeled in five catches for 52 yards.
UConn heads on the road to face the Louisville Cardinals next Saturday.
