In the first period at Matthews Arena, the host Northeastern Huskies took charge of the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers, scoring twice to take a lead into the locker room for the first time in three games.
NU was in control for the duration as it held a 22-6 shots advantage. Huntsville senior stopper John Griggs was very impressive, despite falling into an early hole as he made several key stops to keep his Charger squad in the contest.
The Huskies used a very pretty play to jump ahead in the contest as junior Braden Pimm made a great individual play to find open space and give his squad a 1-0 lead. At 13:06, classmate Cody Ferriero streaked down the right side of the offensive zone and dished a pretty cross-ice pass for Pimm to deke to his forehand and bury his second goal of the season.
At 17:13, sophomore Ludwig Karlsson made it a 2-0 lead as he took a centering pass from rookie Kevin Roy in front. The Swedish alternate captain did the rest, redirecting the puck past Griggs.
