Boston College (1-3, 0-2 ACC) looks to get back into the win column when it faces the winless Army Black Knights (0-4) on Saturday in West Point, NY.
Desperation time is now for the Boston College Eagles, losers of three of their first four games of the 2012 season. Fortunately, beating their next opponent should not be an issue. Boston College goes head to head with the winless Army Black Knights at noon on Saturday at Michie Stadium in West Point, NY.
Boston College and Army have a long history, as Saturday's game will mark the 37th meeting between the two schools in a series that dates back to 1917. BC and Army last played in 2007 at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, MA, with future Falcons star quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 356 yards and three scores to lead the Eagles past the Black Knights, 37-17, on September 22nd. The last Army victory over BC came in 1995, with the Black Knights cruising to a 49-7 victory. Boston College has won five straight games against Army and leads the all-time series, 24-12. BC has a 13-10 series lead in games played at Michie Stadium.
After rebounding from an opening day loss to the Miami Hurricanes with a convincing win over the Maine Black Bears, the Eagles lost back-to-back games to the Northwestern Wildcats and Clemson Tigers. In a game that was similar to the Week 1 loss to Miami, Boston College opened up a 10-0 lead over Clemson early in the first quarter last weekend, only to fall apart once again on defense and surrender more than 40 points for the second time this season on the way to a 45-31 loss. Chase Rettig threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns while Alex Amidon had eight catches for 193 yards and Andre Williams racked up 61 rushing yards for Boston College.
Army hasn't been able to break into the win column this season, losing most recently to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 23-3, last Saturday. Dan Grochowski's 39-yard field goal in the third quarter accounted for the Black Knights' only points. Army quarterback Trent Steelman had just 57 passing yards on 4-of-7 passing and the Black Knights had two rushers (Steelman and Raymond Maples) top 80 yards on the ground. Army had 330 total yards of offense.
Saturday's game will be aired on CBS Sports Network and can be heard on WEEI (93.7 FM) with Jon Meterparel, Pete Cronin and Brian St. Pierre.
