With the NHL lockout and preseason basketball just about wrapped up, the sports scene is minimal on Wednesday night with one very notable exception.

Major League Baseball

Detroit Tigers at San Francisco Giants - 8 p.m. (TV/Radio: FOX/93.7 FM): Game 1 of the World Series will feature two teams that are heavy on great starting pitching. Justin Verlander will be on the mound for the Tigers, seeking to continue his tremendous 2012 postseason that already includes three victories.

On the other side, ex-Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito is looking for his second consecutive victory after dominating the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLCS.

San Francisco is trying to secure its second World Series title in three years.
