Boston College vs. Florida State: Eagles look for miraculous upset

Boston College (1-4, 0-2 ACC) is looking for a miracle when it faces No. 12 ranked Florida State (5-1, 2-1 ACC) on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium in Florida.

There are upsets, and then there are miracles. It would take a miracle for the Boston College Eagles (1-4, 0-2 ACC) to unseat the No. 12 ranked Florida State Seminoles (5-1, 2-1 ACC) in their meeting Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Boston College is riding a three game losing streak, with its most recent loss (also its most embarrassing loss) coming last weekend against the Army Black Knights, 34-31. The Eagles allowed a whopping 516 rushing yards to an Army team that lost to Stony Brook, and FCS team, by twenty points two weeks ago.

Defense is unquestionably the Eagles' biggest flaw, and that bodes well for Florida State. The Seminoles offense, led by star quarterback E.J. Manuel, has a top-40 passing attack (272.3 yards per game) and the 13th best rushing attack in the country (238.5 yards per game). Overall, the Seminoles offense ranks 14th in the country.

The Eagles have a strong passing game, anchored by junior quarterback Chase Rettig (1,526 passing yards, 10 TD) and wide receiver Alex Amidon (644 receiving yards, four TD), but their running game leaves a lot to be desired. Once considered to be a strength of the offense, the running backs have had a poor showing collectively this season, gathering only 104.8 yards per game -- 113th in college football. Andre Williams (369 rushing yards, four TD) provided a good sign for the unit last weekend, however, rushing for a 99-yard touchdown.

Boston College and Florida State are meeting for the 11th time this weekend. Florida State owns a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series and has won the last two meetings -- including a 38-7 stomping of the Eagles last season -- and has a 4-3 edge against Boston College since the Eagles joined the ACC in 2005.

Kickoff is set for 5:35 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
