Boston College may have won the Hockey East title Saturday evening, but Merrimack and New Hampshire get to join the Eagles in the NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Tournament thanks to the strength of their play throughout the season. All three Hockey East teams await their placement by the NCAA, which will be announced at 11:30am on Sunday.
Right now, SBNation's BC Interruption and USCHO have unfortunate news for BC fans: BC may be a number one seed, but may be regulated to playing in the West Regional in St. Louis. Here is how both sites projected the brackets after all of the conference tournaments were finished early Sunday morning Eastern time:
East Regional (Bridgeport, Ct.)
No. 16 Air Force vs. No. 1 Yale
No. 9 Minnesota-Duluth vs. No. 8 Union
West Regional (St. Louis)
No. 14 Colorado College vs. No. 3 Boston College
No. 12 Nebraska-Omaha vs. No. 5 Michigan
Midwest Regional (Green Bay)
No. 15 Rensselaer vs. No. 2 North Dakota
No. 10 Western Michigan vs. No. 7 Denver
Northeast Regional (Manchester, N.H.)
No. 13 New Hampshire vs. No. 4 Miami
No. 11 Notre Dame vs. No. 6 Merrimack
The regional round begins Friday, March 25th, and consists of a semifinal and final to determine the four teams that will head to the NCAA Frozen Four, April 8th - 10th in St. Paul, Minnesota.
