2011 NCAA Tournament: Snubs Include Boston College And Harvard

Steve Donahue and the Boston College men's basketball team put together an impressive run in the 2010-11 season, going 20-12 (9-8 ACC) in Donahue's first season at the helm.

Yet in the end, it wasn't enough to send Boston College to the NCAA Tournament, as the Eagles were snubbed by the selection committee on Selection Sunday.

Boston College was ousted from the 2011 ACC Tournament in the quarterfinals following a 70-47 loss to No. 4 seed Clemson. Entering the conference tournament, many experts said that a BC win over Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Tournament would be enough to send the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament.

BC did just that, trouncing the Demon Deacons, 81-67, in its first round match-up. However, a blowout loss to the Tigers erased any progress Boston College had made towards an NCAA tourney bid.

The Eagles weren't the only team from Boston that was snubbed from the Big Dance. Harvard (23-6, 12-2 Ivy) was also overlooked for an NCAA Tournament bid.

The Crimson have had a rough 24-hour period, losing to Princeton, 63-62, on Saturday night that gave the Tigers the Ivy League's auto bid and being snubbed from an at-large bid on Sunday evening.

The 2011 National Invitation Tournament field will be revealed on Sunday night at 9 p.m., and both Boston College and Harvard are expected to be two of the 32 teams competing in the 73-year-old tournament.
