With Colin Larmond, Jr. Out, Eagles Will Be Stretching

Boston College's top receiver, Colin Larmond Jr., will miss the 2010 season with what is believed to be an MCL injury.

While Larmond's injury may be cause for alarm, especially after the school's all-time leading receiver, Rich Gunnell, graduated last year, there is cause for hope, thanks to a deep recruiting class, as BC Interruption points out:

For one thing, as ATL points out, BC has recruited much better at both wide receiver and tight end over the last few years. In the first few years of the TOB era, BC would be lucky to land a 3* wide receiver recruit. Now, BC has a host of young talent at the position with Phillips, Lee, Coleman and Elliott.

The other reason for optimism is that while the Eagles are thin at WR, they are very deep at TE. Hopefully Tranquill works in more two tight end sets now with Chris Pantale and Lars Anderson. Blocking TE Jordon McMichael may also see increased playing time.

Larmond is still eligible for a medical redshirt that could give him two more years of playing time at BC, according to the blog.

Colin Larmond, Jr., BC's Top Wideout, Will Reportedly Miss 2010 Season With Knee Injury

Colin Larmond, Jr., Boston College's top wide receiver, will be sidelined for the entire 2010 season after suffering an injury in Saturday's practice, according to ESPN's Joe Schad.

Schad cited a "knee injury," while initial reports from the team only went so far as to label it a "lower leg injury."

Larmond did not participate in Sunday's scrimmage, and was spotted on the sidelines on crutches while wearing a thigh-to-foot immobilizing brace on his left leg.

The junior appeared in all 13 games last season, led Eagles receivers in average YPC (20.6) and was second in receptions (29), yards (596) and touchdowns (5). Losing Larmond for the season is a particularly damaging injury for the BC offense to endure, says BC Interruption.

[It is] a tough blow to the Eagles receiving corps. It's particularly tough because other WRs -- including Amidon, Flutie and Phillips --have all missed time this fall with minor injuries. BC's receiving corps is one of the youngest, inexperienced units on the team.

The good news, however, is that if there's one position where you can step in and play right away, it's wide receiver. Freshman Bobby Swigert stepped up in the Eagles third scrimmage, catching a Mike Marscovetra touchdown pass and finishing with 5 catches. Sophomore Clyde Lee also caught 5 balls for a game-high 43 yards. Pantale, Phifer, Coleman and Kimble each had three catches.
