Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Victor Martinez Suffers Fractured Left Thumb

The Red Sox can't get out of San Francisco fast enough.

On Sunday, it was another game with the Giants -- a 5-1 Boston win, at least -- and another injury to a key player. Dustin Pedroia broke his foot on Friday, Clay Buchholz hyper-extended his left knee on Saturday and then today, catcher Victor Martinez left the game with a fractured left thumb.

The team is hoping that a trip to the disabled list will not be needed, but that won't be determined until after the swelling goes down.

In all, it was a rough game for Martinez.

On same foul ball by Sandoval in 2d that struck Martinez's toe, it hit his thumb first. Next inning, another foul tip by Torres, fractureless than a minute ago via Echofon

Jason Varitek will take over the role of starting catcher for the Red Sox. It should be noted, Peter Gammons tweeted "And both of Boston's AAA catchers, Mark Wagner and Dusty Brown, [are] hurt."
