Doc Rivers: 'I'm Coming Back.'

Lest reports from unnamed sources not be entirely accurate, Doc Rivers removed all doubt Wednesday afternoon when he told the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn, "I'm coming back. I want another crack at it with this group."

Depending on your stance in the "Rebuild Now vs. One More Run With The Big Three" debate, that may or may not be good news to you.

Doc Rivers Returning To Celtics With Re-Worked Contract, Raise

Head coach Doc Rivers' return for the 2010-11 season was originally reported by the Boston Herald and then quickly confirmed by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, who added that the final year of his deal has been re-worked, and Rivers will see a raise from the $5.5 million he made last year (he did not want an extension).

"Doc simply couldn't walk away from this group of players, nor his loyalty to Danny Ainge," a source tells Y! Sports.less than a minute ago via web

Report: Doc Rivers Returning To Coach Celtics In 2010-11 Season

Put away your fears of seeing Vinny Del Negro on the bench (at least for now). The Boston Herald is reporting that head coach Doc Rivers is returning to the team for the final year of his contract, this according to "a source close to Rivers."

Rivers has spent the past couple of weeks since the NBA Finals deciding between retiring to spend more time with his family, and staying with Boston for a final season, before reaching his apparent decision on Wednesday.

This news likely means that the Celtics will not be rebuilding this offseason, and instead will make one more run with the core group of players they have now, based on earlier reports that Rivers was inclined to "leave if the team was about to go into a rebuilding phase."

In fact, CelticsBlog has already called it the possible "first critical piece to getting the gang back together again."

Doc Rivers: 'I'm Leaning One Way But I Haven't Decided'

Celtics' head coach (at least for now?) Doc Rivers made this season's final weekly appearance on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Monday morning, and while he didn't say for certain whether or not he will be coaching Boston this fall, he did indicate that he is "leaning" one way.

"I'm not going to say which way I'm leaning - and I am one way - but I could look you in the eye and tell you I haven't decided," he said.

Rivers said he did not discuss the matter with his family during Father's Day Sunday. "We didn't talk about it at all, really," he said. "It's still very difficult to get through Game 7, let alone talk about your future, to be honest."

Rivers added: "[Father's Day] was nice. A couple of my kids were out of town, playing sports, as usual, but it was nice to be home, to have family around. So that's always nice."

While Rivers admitted feeling embarrassed to being in the spotlight like this, especially when the Celtics' players are vocalizing their support, he does appreciate their support: "The only reason you stay is your love for the guys you coach ... knowing that if you do leave, you're not going to get that back."
