Dice-K On The Hill As The Red Sox Battle The A's In Boston

BOSTON (Sports Network) - David Ortiz hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning to propel the Red Sox to a 6-4 victory over the Athletics.

Ortiz, who was awarded the American League Player of the Month for May earlier in the day, went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks for Boston, which has won four in a row, including the first two of this three-game set.

Marco Scutaro scored twice and drove in another run during a three-hit effort, while Daisuke Matsuzaka (4-2) battled through 6 2/3 innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing three runs -- all in the first inning -- to get the win.

Ben Sheets (2-4) was saddled with the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits and a walk in six frames for Oakland. Kurt Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the loss, the club's third in four games.
